Brake squeal is a rather annoying phenomenon for which the Elise / Exige platform seems to be rather sensitive.

The noise produced by the brakes is resonance of the brake pad ‘dancing’ on the brake disc surface.

This type of resonance is a product of the weight of a combination of components.

What we have seen quite often is people who change their brake discs to aluminium bell brake discs (reduce weight) suddenly experience more brake squeal.

We’ve looked into this and developed a shim which combines two functions:
A) The shim is double sided adhesive and should be stuck to the pad and the brake caliper piston (*)
B) The shim consists of Elastomer coating on both sides and a steel plate in the centre, which acts as a noise filter.

(*)When installing these shims, you will have to carefully degrease the brake pad backing plates and the caliper / caliper piston.

The double sided adhesive will bond the brake pad to the caliper. This changes the component weight and reduces the chance of brake squeal.

We have tested these pads on several cars with good results. Of course, brake squeal will increase when using harder pads (mostly competition pads), but this product will help you to remove most of it.

This is a set of four shims which need to be applied to the backing plates of the brake pad. They add approx. 0.63mm to the backing plates.
It might be necessary to sand new pads ever so slightly to compensate for the thickness of the shims!
