This is the new -improved design- oil ladder for the K-series engine.
It seems like the improved torsional rigidity is another step towards an engine which preserves the head gasket, rather then eating them!
If you want to stop head gasket failures, both Landrover and Rover advise to use the multi layer head gasket combined with this oil ladder. The combination seems to be your best bet!
