Sometimes, the wiring inside Starter motors can get burnt. Certainly the starter motors on the PG1 gearbox seem to suffer from this problem.
The effect is simple… you turn the key, nothing happens. Then tap the starter motor and all of a sudden it starts again.

At one point.. you will discover it doesn’t start at all, so it might be a good idea to install a new one before you get there!

As of November 2024 the ‘original’ starter motor is not available anymore in the same shape. The substitute is this high torque version of the starter motor.
